Privacy Policy
Effective date: June 10, 2026
KenLens (研レンズ, "the extension") is a Chrome extension that displays public metadata on researcher pages of researchmap.jp. This policy explains what information the extension handles.
Information that leaves your browser
The extension communicates with external servers only when needed to process the researchmap page you are viewing or to check its operational configuration. Specifically:
- When you view a researchmap researcher page, the extension sends the profile permalink to api.researchmap.jp to fetch the publicly available publication data.
- For each publication, the extension sends the DOI to OpenAlex, Crossref, and Unpaywall to fetch public metadata such as citation counts and OA status. For DOI-less papers with Latin-script titles, Crossref receives only the paper title and the developer's contact email address for DOI-candidate matching. Publication year and author family name are used only for matching inside your browser and are not sent to Crossref.
- In the maintenance report, KenLens also queries OpenAlex for the author's works using the OpenAlex author-record ID derived from those DOIs. It also sends only the researchmap permalink to api.researchmap.jp to fetch public lists of published papers, MISC items, books and other works, and presentations or talks for matching. BibTeX files you paste or select are processed entirely inside your browser and never transmitted.
- About once a day, the extension fetches an operational configuration file (config.json) from the developer's GitHub Pages site (r-okauchi.github.io). This file is a kill switch for researchmap API usage, and the request contains no personal information or browsing information.
No other information leaves your browser: no browsing history, no activity on other websites, and no personally identifying information.
Information we never collect
- No account or sign-in is required, and users are not identified.
- No analytics are used.
- Browsing history is never collected.
Information stored locally
- Responses from external APIs are cached inside your browser (chrome.storage.local) to speed up display. Cache lifetimes range from 24 hours to 30 days depending on the content, and the cache can be cleared at any time from the options page.
- An optional, user-supplied OpenAlex API key is stored locally only and is used solely for requests to OpenAlex. It is never sent anywhere else.
Scope
The extension runs only on researchmap.jp pages.
